As a youngster, I performed under the alias “HooD e” as part of a crew in my hometown of Sheffield called “Junglist Alliance”. Together, we played gigs across the North of England. These days the JA has reached as far as Albania, though I am not so heavily involved anymore. After school, I studied Sound Technology at University. The physical and psychological properties of sound have always fascinated me. When I returned to my home town of Sheffield, I set about starting up a record label. In 2006, I founded a dubstep label called “R8 records” along with fellow artists Rogue State and Alex Deadman, and released a couple of collaborations with Rogue State under the “End Level Bosses” moniker. Around this time, I decided I wanted to see more of the world, and so left England, for Thailand, where I had a short break from the music scene. After two years, spent slowly acquiring the necessary equipment for a portable studio setup, and honing my production skills, I reinvented myself as “Joe Safe”.
